Companion planting is an interesting concept whereby you plant specific plants in close proximity to each other to reach a desired goal - such as better yields, bigger flowers, or even repelling insects. People are discovering more combinations all the time, and observation is the key.  The mechanics of why certain plants are compatible and others are not isn't well understood.  Also, what works in one garden may not work as well in another.  Therefore, watch what happens  in your own garden and write it down.

In my own garden this year, I planted Dill and Lavender side-by-side.  The Dill flourished, but the Lavender looked sick for a while and then died.  This is not scientific proof that Dill and Lavender are not compatible, but I definitely won't be planting them side-by-side in my garden again.

I have researched plant compatibilities, and have compiled some fairly extensive charts, which can be accessed through the links at the top left  Hopefully, they can be used as a road map of sorts to help with your particular gardening goals.
